OpenCulturas

OpenCulturas is the Drupal platform for the culture sector — venues, ensembles, festivals and the networks between them share events, profiles and magazine content on one connected site. It comes from an active, largely German-speaking community and moves at a healthy clip upstream.

What ships on BOA

The OCS platform is rebuilt from the upstream Composer template as BOA releases ship, pinned to the project's exact current stable release — the 3.0 line on Drupal 11.3 at the time of writing — with a standard web/ docroot and the openculturas install profile.

One detail sets this platform apart: the upstream distribution currently carries a defect that breaks a from-scratch install (a required fix to one of its building blocks doesn't get applied in a stock build). BOA's build applies that fix at build time, so a fresh OpenCulturas install here works first time, no hand-patching. You don't need to do anything — it's simply why your install works while a DIY build of the same release may not.

Installing a site on it

Create a site on the OpenCulturas platform with its profile and the install lands on a working site. Log in and the OpenCulturas content model — events, profiles, magazine articles and the relationships between them — is ready to fill.

Good to know

• Event-driven culture sites have traffic that spikes around dates; the standard BOA caching stack handles that without configuration on your side — see Caching.
• Multilingual is native territory for this distribution (it grew up bilingual); Drupal's language tools are all present after install.
